Day 01 : Saturday Board the Deccan Odyssey at Mumbai - on to Nashik

Welcome aboard the Deccan Odyssey.
Your Maharashtra Splendor journey starts at approximately 15:30 hours at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus where you will complete the registration process and check in formalities. Thereafter, you will receive a traditional Indian welcome and a complementary drink.

You will then be guided to your charming cabins. As you settle in, the Deccan Odyssey will begin its journey from Mumbai to Nasik. Welcome drink and dinner on board.

Day 02 : Sunday Nashik

Today, the Deccan Odyssey will halt at the holy city of Nashik also known as the wine capital of the country.
Enjoy an early breakfast and take a walk along the serene Godavari ghats where you will witness the various Hindu rituals related to birth, death and initiation. Continue walking forward till you reach the lively markets by the ghats. The hustle and bustle here will sweep you off your feet with vendors selling everything from vegetables to lentils, dried seafood to cow dung cakes and many things in between.

Later, drive to the Grover Zampa vineyards, where an exclusive tour of India's finest wine producing facilities awaits you! Take a relaxing stroll through the vines laden with Chenin, Chardonnay and Shiraz grapes and get acquainted with the age old 'methodetraditionnelle' used to make one of the best known brands of sparkling wines in India. Thereafter, treat your taste buds with some delicious white, red, rose and sparkling wines in the company of a sommelier and try experimenting with wines as you pair them with your lunch.

Head back to the Deccan Odyssey as the train moves forth to Aurangabad.

Day 03 : Monday Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Ellora Caves is on the Agenda today! To get to this UNESCO world heritage site, disembark at the industrial town of Auragabad. Named after, the last great Mughal Aurangazeb, the entire town and its monuments showcase deep Mughal influences! The must- visit monuments are the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara and the city's 52 gates.

While, you are enjoying a succulent breakfast, the train will arrive at Auragabad! From Auragabad, a scenic drive will take you to the much anticipated Ellora caves! Carved into a side of a Baltic hill, the caves are situated just 30 kms away from the city. Ellora caves are regarded as the finest specimen of cave-temple architecture in India. With over 34 rock-cut shrines, each cave represents Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art dating from the 4th to 5th century AD. Remember, the 12 caves to the south are Buddhist, the 17 in the centre Hindu, and the 5 caves to the north are Jain. Don't miss out on the Kailash temple! An engineering marvel, the temple is meant to be a replica of Shiva's celestial abode on Mt. Kailash.

After a busy morning, savour a relaxed lunch on board as you watch the landscape change.
Evening will be a grand affair as you mingle with your fellow passengers and unwind over a few drinks prepared by our bartender. Dinner aboard the deccan Odyssey as the train proceeds to Jalgaon.

Day 04 : Tuesday Ajanta Caves

Today, we will be visiting another World Heritage Site. After breakfast on board, disembark at Jalgaon station and drive to the Ajanta Caves. A collection of 30 rock-hewn Buddhist caves, the Ajanta caves are simply an architectural marvel of its time! Each cave is masterfully carved and adorned with sculptures and paintings of Buddhist religious art that showcase the universal pictorial art and are known to depict the fusion between Buddhist and Hindu faith.

After an exploring session, lunch will be served aboard the Deccan Odyssey as the train continues on to Kolhapur. The rest of the day will be spent indulging in various facilities offered on board; watch a movie, learn to play carom or just simply relax at a spa.

In the evening, watch the rural scene unfold as you sip on sun downer.

Day 05 : Wednesday Kolhapur

Enjoy the colourful vistas of Maharashtra as the Deccan Odyssey zooms past the hinterlands to reach the city of hidden treasures, Kolhapur! Enjoy time at leisure as you indulge in a succulent breakfast. An early lunch is on the cards today after which you will disembark for a tour of the city!

Admire the architecture as you visit the New Palace museum, formerly a 19th octagonal palace. Made out of basalt and sandstone, this museum houses epic memorabilia of the Kolhapur rulers. Town Hall Museum is next up on the list! This sombre neo-Gothic building is famed for its front porch that is flanked by towers that have steeply pyramidal metal roofs.

It's shopping time, walk around the local markets looking for beautifully handcrafted Kolhapuri chappals that act as perfect take back home present. Later, enjoy tea at a special venue with Lavanya Sandhya, a vibrant folk performance.

Lastly, visit the 1300 year old Mahalakshmi temple, also called Shakti Pethas, or place associated with the Goddess Shakti, the companion of Lord Vishnu. After a traditional martial art performance called 'Mardani Khel' (Masculine games), head to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Day 06 : Thursday Goa

Say hello to India's smallest and the most happening state as your train halts at Goa. Since, it was Portuguese colony till 1961; Goa still shows strong traces of the Portuguese culture.
Admire the Portuguese style architecture as you visit Fontainhas, the Latin Quarters in Panjim! Embark on UNESCO World Heritage Walk around the winding alleyways of Fontainhascharacterised by brightly coloured tiled-roofed Portuguese houses.

Next up on the list is Ribandar, the erstwhile capital of Goa. When in Ribandar, walk through the ancient churches and admire the ruins of the once sky- touching St. Augustine tower.

Thereafter, drive to the Sahakari spice plantation where a traditional Goan feat awaits! The 400 years of Portuguese rule clearly reflects in this Hindu origin meal that pays respect to the fruits of the Arabian Sea. Savour the shrimps, kingfish and mackerel and wash them down with some 'feni', a potent liquor made from cashew.

Last but not the least; get an insight to the Goan way of living with a visit to an old Portuguese house. It's time to return to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner as we bid adieu to Goa and depart for Ratnagiri.

It is said that the railway route through Konkan is one of the most scenic routes with the Arabian Sea glittering in the west and Sayadri hills looming in the east. On this journey, you will encounter quite a few tunnels as the tracks pass through the seemingly insurmountable Sayadri hills; an engineering marvel indeed!

Day 07 : Friday Sindhudurg

Arrive in Sindhudurg which lies on a rocky island just off the coast of Malvan.
Visit the holy town of Sindhudurg.

Day 08 : Saturday Disembark in Mumbai

Day 8 marks the end of your royal journey as you disembark at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station, Mumbai after breakfast. Breakfast on board.

Day 01 : Saturday Board the Deccan Odyssey at Delhi - on to Sawai Madhopur

Welcome aboard the Deccan Odyssey.
This evening assemble at the railway station at approximately 1700 hours to complete the registration process and check in formalities for your Indian Odyssey journey, as you receive a traditional Indian welcome and enjoy a refreshing welcome drink.

After completion of all formalities, you will be shown to your delightful cabins. As you settle in, the Deccan Odyssey shall depart Delhi for Sawai Madhopur Dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 02 : Sunday Sawai Madhopur - Ranthambore National Park

Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan is the alighting point for the famous Ranthambore National Park, and India's efforts to conserve the dwindling tiger population can be seen here. The park is one of the finest tiger reserves in the country and the most likely place to spot one of these majestic animals.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before you set out for your village safari.
The people of Rajasthan's villages are mostly tribal who subsist on farming and hunting. These friendly folk are warm and welcoming, happy to show guests around their villages, giving deep insights into their daily lives. The women here wear bright colours to offset the drab desert, and most people live in mud huts. Visit a local home and interact with the family.

When you're done with the village safari, return to the comfort of the Deccan Odyssey. Enjoy a leisurely lunch before you set out for a game drive.
Ranthambore is home to several other species as well; you can see herds of Chital and Sambhar deer as well as wild boar, Nilgai antelope and chinkara gazelles. There are also sloth bear, a few leopards and crocodiles. Extensive bird life includes jungle fowl, partridges, quails, the crested serpent eagle, woodpeckers, flycatchers etc. There are also water birds like storks, ducks and geese at the lakes and waterholes. If it's your lucky day, you could spot a tiger lolling around lazily in the sun, or feverishly hunting down deer around the lakes!

After a fulfilling afternoon, proceed for high tea at the Sawai Madhopur Lodge, the former hunting lodge of the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur. Feel free to share the spoils (of your photo-shoots!)
After high tea, it is time to head back to the Deccan Odyssey where you can relax with a drink before dinner on board, as the Deccan Odyssey sets off for Agra, the city of the world famous "Taj Mahal" Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner on board, High tea at Taj Sawai Madhopur Lodge Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 03 : Monday Agra

Arriving at Agra, you will realize that the Mughals were not just the greatest dynasty to rule India but also its greatest builders. After a leisurely breakfast on board, you will visit the Taj Mahal, which was Emperor Shah Jahan's gift of love to his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and is truly the world's most wondrous monument. The making of the Taj Mahal is as much a fable as the edifice itself. It took 20000 men 22 years to build this unrivaled mausoleum and its exquisite white marble was brought from 200 miles away by caravans of elephants and camels. Lunch at a City Hotel. After lunch, your tour of Agra continues as you visit Itmad-ud-Daulah, a marble mausoleum built by Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, in memory of her father, Ghiyas Beg. Sometimes called the 'Baby Taj', it is beautifully conceived in white marble, mosaic and lattice. Thereafter proceed to Agra Fort, another outstanding example of Mughal architecture, and the seat of Mughal reign and administration for three generations. The present structure owes its origins to Emperor Akbar who had its first buildings of red sandstone erected on the eastern bank of the river Yamuna. His grandson Shah Jahan, the most artistic and prolific builder of the dynasty, later added the impressive marbled private quarters and the mosque while Aurangzeb added the outer ramparts. A visit to the Diwan-e-Am, 'Hall of Public Audience' and the Royal Pavilions is not to be missed. Later, you have the opportunity to visit the local markets to admire the exquisite Pietra Dura (marble inlay) artefacts and Mughal ornaments OR as an optional activity you may avail of spa facilities at a hotel before completing your tour of this historical city. Late evening, you return to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner and your onward journey to Jaipur, The Pink City. Day 04 : Tuesday Jaipur

Legendary for the triumphs of its proud Rajputs, Jaipur, the City of Victory, is surrounded by the rugged Aravali hills - crowned by formidable forts - and beautiful palaces, mansions and gardens. Royal processions and parades, in all their splendour, graced these palaces and forts once. The city is a colourful oasis in the desert and you will notice a timeless quality to Jaipur's bazaars and its people.

After breakfast you drive to Maharaja Mansingh's 17th century masterpiece, the Amber Fort that overlooks the beautiful Maota Lake. The fort is a sprawling complex of courtyards, halls and rooms adorned with beautiful paintings, precious stones and mirrors. Behold the Sheesh Mahal, 'Hall of Mirrors', where a single lamplight reflects in many mirrors, and lights up the entire room, creating a dazzling effect.

En-route to Amber Fort visit the Palace of Winds, otherwise known as the Hawa Mahal, famous for its intricate pink sandstone carving and a beautiful view of the city.

Thereafter you will visit the famous City Palace of Jaipur, an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces, gardens and courtyards, decorative art and carved doorways. The palace museum houses collections of rare manuscripts, armoury, costumes and carpets. Walk across to the adjacent Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory built in the 18th century by Sawai Jai Singh. A wondrous achievement for its time the observatory gives accurate readings even to this day. Lunch at a City hotel.

Following lunch you may choose to participate in one of the optional tours. Enjoy spa facilities at a palace hotel OR have the opportunity to explore the colorful bazaars of the Pink City which offer a wide range of ethnic handicrafts produced in the city-centre and its outskirts.
After your full day of delving in the royal past of Jaipur you will return to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner on board as it departs for Udaipur.

Day 05 : Wednesday Udaipur

The Deccan Odyssey rolls into Udaipur in the morning. Set on the shores of the placid Lake Pichola, Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes, is easily one of the most romantic cities of India, surrounded by scenic hills. Enjoy your breakfast as you admire the picturesque landscape of the Aravali hills.

You will then disembark to visit the famous City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas, which also houses the spectacular Crystal Gallery.

Later, board a ferry to ride on Lake Pichola to reach Jagmandir, a 17th century Palace located on an island on the picturesque lake, for an exquisite lunch. Allow the sounds of the Tabla and the unique Jal Tarang to soothe your inner rhythm as you glance out to the lovely views of one of the most romantic cities of Rajasthan.

Later embark on a walking tour through the Old City of Udaipur. On this tour you will explore the Old City's lively, busy and old fashioned colourful bazar which still retains local charm and feel. As we walk along on the serpentine narrow streets, the place gives us the opportunity to see the shops selling spices, tea, bamboo baskets, flowers, sweets and other household items.
Thereafter you return to the Deccan Odyssey for a relaxed evening and dinner as we depart for Vadodara.

Day 06 : Thursday Vadodara

Today you arrive at the capital of the Gaekwads, Vadodara, located along the seasonal river Vishwamitri.

Post early lunch, you will disembark and proceed to visit Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the only complete and unchanged pre-Mughal Islamic city in India. This concentration of largely unexcavated archaeological, historic and living cultural heritage properties is cradled in an impressive landscape. Marvel at the Jami Masjid (Great Mosque ) built in 1513 representing a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture which was a model for later mosque architecture in India.

Drive back to the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, originally constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today, art lovers can view a large number of works of art displayed in the museum including a collection of the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and other renowned European Masters as well as a collection of sculptures in marble and bronze.

Enjoy high tea at the resplendent Laxmi Vilas Palace, built in 1890, and the residence of the Royal family even today. Reputedly four times the size of Buckingham Palace, its overwhelming Durbar Hall boasts a Venetian mosaic floor, Belgian stained glass windows and walls with intricate mosaic decorations. The palace also houses a remarkable collection of old armoury and sculptures in bronze, marble & terracotta by Fellici. Witness a folk performance typical of the region as you savour some of the special delicacies from the Royal kitchen.

Day 07 : Friday Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Aurangabad, named after the last Great Mughal Aurangzeb, is an industrial town in Maharashtra and the stop from where to head out to visit the exceptional Ellora Caves, a World Heritage site. The city itself has deep Mughal influences and there are several monuments of note here, the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Makbara and the city's 52 gates, each with its own history, amongst them.

Today brings a late start, leaving the morning free for you to enjoy a languid breakfast and enjoy some of the activities available on board. Later, as you savour lunch, the Deccan Odyssey arrives at Aurangabad, from where a scenic drive takes you to the Ellora Caves, carved into the side of a basaltic hill 30 km from the city. The finest specimen of cave-temple architecture in India, the site encompasses 34 rock-cut shrines representing Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art dating from the 4th to 5th century AD. The 12 caves to the south are Buddhist, the 17 in the centre Hindu, and the 5 caves to the north are Jain. The most remarkable is the Kailash temple, meant to be a replica of Shiva's celestial abode on Mt. Kailash. It is the best example of rock cut architecture and an engineering marvel.

After exploring Ellora, return to the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 03 : Monday Udaipur

The Deccan Odyssey rolls into Udaipur in the morning. Set on the shores of the placid Lake Pichola, Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes, is easily one of the most romantic cities of India, surrounded by scenic hills. Enjoy your breakfast as you admire the picturesque landscape of the Aravali hills.

Post early lunch, you will disembark to visit the famous City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas, which also houses the spectacular Crystal Gallery. The tour of this magnificent city is completed with a boat cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Pichola.

Later proceed on a walking tour through the Old City of Udaipur. On this tour you will explore the Old City's lively, busy and old fashioned colourful bazar which still retains local charm and feel. As we walk along on the serpentine narrow streets, the place gives us the opportunity to see the shops selling spices, tea, bamboo baskets, flowers, sweets and other household items.

Day 04 : Tuesday Jodhpur

This morning as the Deccan Odyssey travels through the stronghold of the Marwar region, enjoy a relaxing morning on board as you breakfast, unwind and experience the striking panorama of the Thar Desert, arriving at Jodhpur.

Following lunch, set out once again to explore the magnificent city of Jodhpur, also known as the Blue City, after the vivid bluepainted houses that surround the Mehrangarh Fort. Set like a pearl amidst the stark desert, this former capital of Marwar boasts some of the finest architecture from the Rajput era, renowned for its superb forts and glorious palaces.

Experience glimpses of the lifestyle of the residents as you explore the city. Walk through the bustle of the Old Clock Tower market, past old havelis and houses, continue to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, the pride of Jodhpur. Marvel at the intricate carvings and expansive courtyards of the several palaces inside as well as the amazing view of palanquins, arms, paintings, costumes and the arts and crafts of a bygone era at the museum.

Day 05 : Wednesday Sawai Madhopur a Ranthambore National Park

Sawai Madhopur, in Rajasthan is the alighting point for the famous Ranthambore National Park, and India's efforts to conserve the dwindling tiger population can be seen here. The park is one of the finest tiger reserves in the country and the most likely place to spot one of these majestic animals.

Enjoy breakfast before you set out for your morning village safari. The people of Rajasthan's villages are mostly tribals who subsist on farming and hunting. These friendly folk are warm and welcoming, happy to show guests around their villages, giving deep insights into their daily lives. The women here wear bright colours to offset the drab desert, and most people live in mud huts. Visit a local home for a and interact with the family. Post the village tour head back to the comfort of Deccan Odyssey for a sumptuous lunch.

Post lunch, disembark to head for the afternoon safari. Ranthambore is home to several other species as well; you can see herds of Chital and Sambhar deer as well as wild boar, Nilgai antelope and chinkara gazelles. There are also sloth bear, a few leopards and crocodiles. Extensive bird life includes jungle fowl, partridges, quails, the crested serpent eagle, woodpeckers, flycatchers etc. There are also water birds like storks, ducks and geese at the lakes and waterholes. If it's your lucky day, you could spot a tiger lolling around lazily in the sun, or feverishly hunting down deer around the lakes!

After a fulfilling afternoon, proceed for high tea at the Sawai Madhopur Lodge, the former hunting lodge of the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur. Feel free to share the spoils (of your photo-shoots!) over a leisurely hi tea. After high tea, it is time to head back to the Deccan Odyssey where you can relax with a drink before dinner on board, as the Deccan Odyssey sets off for Agra, the city of Taj Mahal.

Day 06 : Thursday Agra

Arriving at Agra, you will realize that the Mughals were not just the greatest dynasty to rule India but also its greatest builders. After a leisurely breakfast on board, you will visit the Taj Mahal, which was Emperor Shah Jahan's gift of love to his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and is truly the world's most wondrous monument. The making of the Taj Mahal is as much a fable as the edifice itself. It took 20000 men 22 years to build this unrivaled mausoleum and its exquisite white marble was brought from 200 miles away by caravans of elephants and camels.

Lunch at a City Hotel. After lunch, your tour of Agra continues as you visit Itmad-ud-Daulah, a marble mausoleum built by Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, in memory of her father, Ghiyas Beg. Sometimes called the 'Baby Taj', it is beautifully conceived in white marble, mosaic and lattice.

Thereafter proceed to Agra Fort, another outstanding example of Mughal architecture, and the seat of Mughal reign and administration for three generations. The present structure owes its origins to Emperor Akbar who had its first buildings of red sandstone erected on the eastern bank of the river Yamuna. His grandson Shah Jahan, the most artistic and prolific builder of the dynasty, later added the impressive marbled private quarters and the mosque while Aurangzeb added the outer ramparts. A visit to the Diwan-e-Am, 'Hall of Public Audience' and the Royal Pavilions is not to be missed.
Later, you have the opportunity to visit the local markets to admire the exquisite Pietra Dura (marble inlay) artefacts and Mughal ornaments OR as an optional activity you may avail of spa facilities at a hotel before completing your tour of this historical city.

Late evening, you return to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner and your onward journey to Jaipur, The Pink City. Breakfast on board; Lunch at a City Hotel, Dinner on board Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 07 : Friday Jaipur

Legendary for the triumphs of its proud Rajputs, Jaipur, the City of Victory, is surrounded by the rugged Aravali hills - crowned by formidable forts - and beautiful palaces, mansions and gardens. Royal processions and parades, in all their splendour, graced these palaces and forts once. The city is a colourful oasis in the desert and you will notice a timeless quality to Jaipur's bazaars and its people.

After breakfast you drive to Maharaja Mansingh's 17th century masterpiece, the Amber Fort that overlooks the beautiful Maota Lake. The fort is a sprawling complex of courtyards, halls and rooms adorned with beautiful paintings, precious stones and mirrors. Behold the Sheesh Mahal, 'Hall of Mirrors', where a single lamplight reflects in many mirrors, and lights up the entire room, creating a dazzling effect.

En-route to Amber Fort visit the Palace of Winds, otherwise known as the Hawa Mahal, famous for its intricate pink sandstone carving and a beautiful view of the city.

Thereafter you will visit the famous City Palace of Jaipur, an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces, gardens and courtyards, decorative art and carved doorways. The palace museum houses collections of rare manuscripts, armoury, costumes and carpets. Walk across to the adjacent Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory built in the 18th century by Sawai Jai Singh. A wondrous achievement for its time the observatory gives accurate readings even to this day.

Following lunch you may choose to participate in one of the optional tours. Enjoy spa facilities at a palace hotel OR have the opportunity to explore the colourful bazaars of the Pink City which offer a wide range of ethnic handicrafts produced in the citycentre and its outskirts.

Day 01 : Saturday Board the Deccan Odyssey train at Mumbai - on to Bijapur

Early in the evening, you will reach the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at approximately 15.30 hours to complete the registration process. Once the check in and formalities for your Jewels of the Deccan journey are complete, you will receive a traditional Indian welcome, and a refreshing drink.

You will then be guided to your royal Indian cabins. Soon the Deccan Odyssey will begin its journey from Mumbai to Bijapur in Karnataka. Welcome drink and dinner on board.

Day 02 : Sunday Bijapur

This morning, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast on the Deccan Odyssey. We will also arrive at Bijapur, the historic capital of the Sultans of Deccan.

The Kalyani Chalukyas were responsible for establishing Bijapur between the 10th and 11th. However, it was often passed into the hands of new conquerors and invaders. During the second half of 16th and early 17th century, Bijapur gained a prominent place among the most celebrated cities of India under the aegis of the Adil Shahi dynasty. It even surpassed hugely popular cities of Delhi and Agra. Adil Shahi Sultan's secular nature and liberal patronage ensured many scholars, poets, painters, dancers, calligraphers, musicians, Sufi saints and other men of arts flocked to Bijapur. It later became famous as the 'Palmyra of the Deccan'.

Post breakfast, move on to visit the Gol Gumbaz, literally 'round dome', and the second largest tomb in the world. This mausoleum of Adil Shah, the Sultan of Bijapur, is a magnificent testimony of the architectural triumph of Deccan architecture. The circular gallery, especially, where the tiniest of whispers gets magnified due to the unique acoustics of the dome is one of the main highlights of the Gol Gumbaz.

Next, head to the Jumma Masjid, which is renowned as one of the first mosques in India. Then proceed to the largest medieval cannon in the world - Malik-e-Maidan. While you're here, don't forget to make a wish here! Legend has it that if you touch the gun and make a wish, there's a pretty good chance it will come true. So, go on and ask for something.

Visit Mehtar Mahal, the 17th century ornamental gateway to a mosque. Post that, explore Ibrahim Rouza, which is one of the most graceful Islamic monuments of India. It is believed that Ibrahim Rouza's 24m high minarets inspired those of the Taj Mahal. Return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch on board. The train will then depart for Aihole & Pattadakal.

Day 03 : Monday Aihole - Pattadakal

Wake up early this morning, and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Then head out to discover the ancient settlements and temples of Aihole and Pattadakal, one of the largest temple complexes across the globe.

A trip here will help you understand why Aihole is often called the cradle of Indian architecture. It is home to over 70 rock cut temples, which was constructed by the Chalukyan kings in a completely experimental style. However, the fact that each temple is different from the others in the complex, and even from other temples in India itself makes Aihole truly unique.

Continue on to Pattadakal, which is located on the banks of the Malaprabha River. Witness its architectural style that radiates a seamless blend of South Indian (Dravidian) and North Indian (Nagara) forms. In fact, it is believed that this form of architecture was the inspiration behind the Hoysala and other dynasties.

Head back to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch.
Post lunch, opt for an optional tour of the weaving village of Guledgud. This place is famous for hand and power looms of ilkal and khann. Witness the process of weaving, and shop for beautiful souvenirs to take back home. You also have the option to visit Badami's sculptured temples and rock cut caves.

Day 04 : Tuesday Hampi

Today the Deccan Odyssey reaches Hospet. Visit the iconic City of Victory, Hampi. Explore the sacred and royal centres, palaces and impressive temples.

This morning as you enjoy breakfast, the Deccan Odyssey rolls into Hospet. Today you will visit the iconic City of Victory - Hampi, a World Heritage site, famous for its splendid architecture, sculptures and their historical significance. A short drive quickly changes your landscape from the city bustle to sentient massive boulders as you reach Hampi. Stop at the Narasimha statue and spend some time taking pictures and looking around.

Next head to the mustard Ganesh, located at the base of the Hemkuta hills, and quite a misnomer as the elephant God statue here is anything but small! Take in the breathtaking vistas around the hills with their little caves and alcoves. Walk the banks of the Tungabhadra River as you leave the Virupaksha temple on to the famed Vittala temple, the polar power sites of Hampi, one a living temple, the other a most extravagant architectural showpiece.

Head back to Hospet for lunch on board the Deccan Odyssey.
Post lunch, disembark once more to continue your exploration, reaching the Royal Center at Hampi. This area was the citadel of the Vijayanagara kings and encompasses courtly and military structures. Visit the Queens Bath, the Stepped Tank, the MahanavamiDibba or great platform, where a ramp is available to reach its summit, the Hazararama Temple, the Queens Enclosure with its Lotus Mahal and the Elephant stables.

Day 05 : Wednesday Hyderabad

Today, Deccan Odyssey will reach the royal city of the Nizams, Hyderabad. According to legends, this capital of the Asaf Jahi dynasty was originally named after Bhagmati, the Hindu wife of Muhammad QuliQutb Shah. But she later converted to Islam, and changed her name to Hyder Mahal, which have the city its current name.

This morning, enjoy an early breakfast and drive to Golconda - the epitome of Nizami culture and grandeur. What was originally a mud fort, soon acquired impressive proportions after it became the seat of power of the Qutub Shahi dynasty.

Head to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch.
Alternately, you can also choose an optional shopping tour. Hyderabad is the perfect place to buy pearls, lac bangles and custom made oil based fragrances or "ittars" amongst other. Follow up this shopping trip with the delectable Hyderabadi Biryani for lunch.

Proceed to Falaknuma Palace, which stands for "like the sky". Akin to its name, this palace stands tall, almost reaching the clouds. Enjoy sumptuous high tea, post the tour of this stunning palace.

Then move on to explore the old city area of Charminar. Filled with bustling bazaars, it stands tall in the centre of the city. One of the most recognized structures of India, it was allegedly built by Muhammad QuliQutb Shah to fulfil his vow of building a mosque if the plague epidemic devastating the city ceased. Walk through the markets in the Charminar area, especially the Laad Bazaar for the local jewellery, and PatherGatti for the celebrated Deccan pearls.

Day 06 : Thursday Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Named after the last Great Mughal Aurangzeb, Aurangabad is an industrial town in Maharashtra. From here, we will proceed to visit the brilliantly carved Ellora Caves, a World Heritage site. The city itself radiates Mughal influences, and is home to several stunning monuments. This includes the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara and the city's 52 gates, each with a history as fascinating as the monuments themselves.

As you enjoy breakfast, the Deccan Odyssey will arrive at Aurangabad. Here, a scenic drive to the Ellora Caves, carved into the side of a basaltic hill 30 km from the city awaits you. Witness the finest specimen of cave-temple architecture in India on this site. It encompasses 34 rock-cut shrines that beautifully showcase Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art dating from the 4th to 5th century AD. The 17 caves in the centre are Hindu, 12 caves to the south are Buddhist, while the 5 caves to the north are Jain. If you want a glimpse of the best example of rock cut architecture, then head to the Kailash temple. A replica of Shiva's celestial abode on Mt. Kailash, it is simply an engineering marvel.

The 30 rock-hewn Buddhist caves adorned with paintings and sculptures of Buddhist religious art are nothing less than spectacular. Skilfully carved, they depict the fusion between Buddhist and Hindu faith.

Day 02 : Sunday Vadodara

While, you are enjoying a succulent breakfast, the train will arrive at the capital city of the Gaekwads, Vadodara. The city is located along the seasonal river Vishwamitri.
Disembark from the train and prepare yourself for a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, the only untouched pre- Mughal Islamic city in India. Its impressive landscape consists of unexcavated archaeological, historic and living cultural heritage. Visit the Jami Masjid (Great Mosque ) built in 1513 and witness a seamless blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture, which later became a model for mosque architecture in India.

After you're done exploring session, drive back to Vadodara for lunch on board the Deccan Odyssey.
After lunch, make your way towards the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, once a school for the Maharaja's children, now it acts as a paradise for art lovers! You can view a varied range of art displayed in the museum, including a collection of the Raja Ravi Varma's paintings, along with other renowned European Masters and a collection of sculptures in bronze and marble. Experience the royal life as you enjoy high tea at the resplendent Lakshmi Vilas Palace, where the Royal family still resides! Built in 1890, the palace is almost four times the size of Buckingham Palace and sports some awe- inspiring interiors; the Durbar hall boasts of a Venetian mosaic floor, Belgian stained glass windows and walls with elaborate mosaic decorations. The palace also houses an extraordinary collection of Fellici's old armoury and sculptures in bronze, marble & terracotta. Admire the spectacular cluster of Jain temples exquisitely carved in marble as you spend your day exploring the most significant temples out of the 900! Perched upon a hilltop at Palitana, this site is considered to be the most sacred pilgrimage spot of the Jains. After getting acquainted with the Jain Tirthankars, head back to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch. Your afternoon will be spent indulging in various facilities offered on board; watch a movie, learn to play carom or just simply relax at a spa. Day 04 : Tuesday SasanGir

Wake up to a golden dawn and after an early breakfast, disembark for your drive to SasanGir - The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. A guide will accompany you for your morning game drive into the Gir forest keep your fingers crossed for a sighting of the majestic and extremely rare Asiatic lion! Experience the magic of the wild all around you as you venture deep into this natural habitat, with everything from tiny wild birds, not easily seen, but heard, singing in the forest canopy, to crocodiles sunning themselves in marshy waters. After the excitement of the morning, enjoy a relaxed lunch followed by a tribal dance at the Gateway hotel. Return to the Deccan Odyssey and unwind with a drink before dinner on board, as you set off for the Little Rann of Kutch. Day 05 : Wednesday Little Rann of Kutch

An early start is on the cards today, have breakfast and disembark at Viramgam station. After which you will drive to a stop over point and transfer into a jeep for an exciting safari of Little Rann of Kutch.

Contrary to its name, Rann is the world's largest salt marsh spread over at a distance of 7500 sq. Km. Enter this saline desert and feel dry air whip your face as your eyes take in the view of unending parched earth. The monsoons create a still and salty sea on this landscape.

Your jeep safari will take you across the Wild Ass Sanctuary where you will get a chance to spot the ghudkar, or Indian wild ass and other species like the desert fox, jungle cat, jackal and several birds. Keep your camera ready at all times as there is virtually no vegetation for animals to hide behind!

After a run in the sun, relax at the Rann Riders Resort and enjoy the regional specialties of the Maliks of Rann and the delicious Gujarati fare. Since, the resort is enveloped by the desert, after lunch take a walk around the resort and say hello to the Marwari and Kathiawari horses and various other species.

No trip is complete without meeting the locals so gather your bags and embark on a village safari. Here, you will get a chance to meet the various communities that call the Rann their home. Meet up with the Agarias, salt-panners, who are responsible for drying out the salts, then head towards the homes of the Rabari tribe for a glance into their world and learn the tricks of the trade from the Mirs of Dasada who make the beaded bangles. Later, make your way towards the local school where you will be greeted by a bunch of enthusiastic kids who love sharing and listening to stories and adventures.

Day 06 : Thursday Modhera - Patan

Today, we visit the medieval capital of Gujarat, Patan, the 8th century fortified town.
After breakfast, we will drive to the Sun temple in Modhera. This sandstone temple is dedicated to the sun god and was built in the 11th Century by the Solanki Dynasty. Explore the various elaborate carvings as the resident priest enlightens you about the legends associated with it. The front of the temple has a steep tank that has about 108 shrines that lead down to the water.

After your visit to the Sun temple, unwind in the lovely village of Patan where you'll visit the famous 11th century step well Rani kiVav. This step well is a fine example of subterranean well architecture. As you make way down the step well, you will encounter hundreds of delicate carvings and statues of Parvati, Shiva, Vishnu and other gods that have been etched into the side walls. This monument is clearly more than just a place to save water, it doubles up as an ancient worshipping site where people met for community gatherings.

Its shopping time, head towards the Patola house for some exquisite Patola sarees. The Patola house is the centre of the Salvi family's traditional craft of weaving! They have been weaving since the 12th century and have been identified by the royalty of Gujarat.
After an eventful morning, head back to Deccan Odyssey for lunch. With the train proceeding to Nagpur, you have the afternoon to yourself.

Day 07 : Friday Nashik

On Day 7, the Deccan Odyssey will halt at the holy city of Nashik also known as the wine capital of the country.
Start your day early as you head to Pandu Leni after breakfast to explore one of the most ancient Jain and Buddhist cave temples in India. Out of the 24 caves, some caves date back to the 1st century BC while the others were built around 13th century AD.

After an exploring session, drive to the Grover Zampa vineyards, where an exclusive tour of India's finest wine producing facilities awaits you! Let your hair down as you stroll through the vines laden with Chenin, Chardonnay and Shiraz grapes and get acquainted with the age old 'method traditionally' used to make one of the best known brands of sparkling wines in India. Later, treat your taste buds with some delicious white, red, rose and sparkling wines in the company of a sommelier.

Relax for a while at the Deccan Odyssey. Reserve your evening for a trip to the Godavari ghats, where you will witness the various Hindu rituals related to birth, death and initiation.

Day 01 : Saturday Board the Deccan Odyssey at Mumbai on to Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Early this evening at approximately 15.30 hours, assemble at the Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus. Complete your registration process and check-in formalities to commence your Maharashtra Wild Trail journey. A traditional Indian welcome and a refreshing drink are complimentary. Proceed to your delightful cabins, and settle in. Soon, the Deccan Odyssey will begin its journey from Mumbai to Ellora Caves - a World Heritage site. Welcome drink and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 02 : Sunday Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

Today, the Deccan Odyssey will arrive at Aurangabad. After you enjoy a delicious breakfast, head out to explore this lovely city named after the last Great Mughal Aurangzeb. Then set out to explore the fascinating Ellora Caves, a World Heritage site. Witness the deep Mughal influence on city as you explore the Daulatabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara and the city's 52 gates, each with its own history.

Spend time in leisure this morning. You also have the option to enjoy a relaxing massage at a spa. Post an early lunch, head for a scenic drive that to the Ellora Caves. Carved into the side of a basaltic hill 30 km from the city, it is probably the finest specimen of cave-temple architecture in India you will come across. This magnificent site encompasses 34 rock-cut shrines that represent Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art. The 12 caves to the south are Buddhist, the 17 in the centre Hindu, and the 5 caves to the north are Jain. The most extraordinary part of the Ellora caves is perhaps, the Kailash temple. Believed to be a replica of Shiva's celestial abode on Mt. Kailash, it is the perfect example of rock cut architecture and an engineering marvel. Next, begin your excursion to the soaring Daulatabad Fort. Occupied since at least 100 BC, it is home to the remains of Buddhist caves similar to those at Ajanta and Ellora.

Return to the Deccan Odyssey to freshen up, and then head to the city for dinner. Breakfast, lunch on board and dinner at a city hotel. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 03 : Monday Aurangabad

After a leisurely breakfast, proceed to explore the old city of Aurangabad.
Visit Bibi-ka-Maqbara, the last resting place of Dilras Banu, Aurangzeb's wife. Built between 1651 and 1661 by her son, Prince Azam Shah, the monument is also called the 'Taj of the Deccan'. It was built to rival the brilliance of the Taj Mahal, but sadly fell short.

Next visit a facility that specialises in the weaving of Himroo fabric. Himroo has been associated with Aurangabad since the 14th century. During this time, Muhammad Tughlaq made Aurangabad his capital. This particular fabric features Persian designs woven with silver and gold threads. It is named from Hum-ruh, which means 'similar' in Persian, as it is a replica of the Kum Khwab fabric that was much admired in royal courts before Himroo took its place.

Return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch on board. Spend the rest of your afternoon indulging in the recreational activities on board. Take in the sight of ever-changing colors and landscapes of Maharashtra as the Deccan Odyssey makes its way to Ramtek for Pench National Park.

In the evening, enjoy a sun downer at the Gateway, and then enjoy a scrumptious dinner. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 04 : Tuesday Pench National Park (Ramtek)

Today the Deccan Odyssey will halt at Ramtek, for your rendezvous with nature's beautiful creations at the Pench National Park. It is named after the Pench river, which wanders through it like a python, splitting it into almost equal halves. The park is vastly rich in biodiversity, its terrain defined by hills, valleys and the occasional precipitous slope. This important ecosystem supports an abundance of flora and fauna, which includes a rich diversity of aquatic life.

After an exciting game drive, return to the Deccan Odyssey for a relaxed brunch on board.
In the afternoon, get ready for your second adventure into the wild. For the uninitiated, the Pench National Park combines four different forest regions in one. It features an extravagance of trees, shrubs, grasses, climbers, weeds and herbs, with teak being the most prominent of the tree species. The birdlife here is equally abundant with both resident and migratory birds like Malabar pied hornbills, Indian pittas, ospreys and grey-headed fishing eagles. The park is also home to white-eyed buzzards, storks, waterfowls, four endangered vulture species, and the green pigeon, which is the state bird of Maharashtra.
After a thrilling day at Pench, drive back to Ramtek station to board the Deccan Odyssey. Enjoy a lavish dinner as the Deccan Odyssey departs for Tadoba. Brunch and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 05 : Wednesday Tadoba

Today, the Deccan Odyssey will arrive at the Chandrapur station, for your early morning safari into the Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Also called the Land of Tigers, this reserve is known for its high tiger density. It is usual to spot tigers and wild dogs here. You also have plenty of opportunities for close encounters with leopards, sloth bears, gaurs (the Indian bison), the rusty spotted cat, ratels, various species of deer and more.

After an exhilarating morning, enjoy late breakfast at the Tiger Trails lodge. Follow this with a documentary on wildlife or interact with our naturalist.
Post lunch at the lodge before, drive back to Chandrapur station to board the Deccan Odyssey.
Unwind and enjoy cocktails fixed by our bartender onboard. Follow this with a delectable dinner and a well deserved rest. The Deccan Odyssey will then proceeds towards Jalgaon to visit the stunning Ajanta Caves.
Breakfast, lunch at Tiger Trails lodge and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 06 : Thursday Jalgaon - Ajanta Caves

This morning, the Deccan Odyssey will arrive at the Jalgaon station. From here you will disembark and drive to the Ajanta Caves. This World Heritage site is an architectural wonder of its time. The 30 rock-hewn Buddhist caves at Ajanta have been expertly carved and are ornamented with sculptures and paintings of Buddhist religious art. It impeccably presents a universal pictorial art as well as the fusion of Buddhist and Hindu faith.

After your trip to Ajanta, return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch as it makes its way to Nashik.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Relax and enjoy some of the recreational activities available on board. Indulge in relaxing massage in our spa or you can watch a movie, and learn the rules of 'carrom', a popular Indian board game from a Deccan Odyssey team member. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 07 : Friday Nashik

Today, the Deccan Odyssey will halt at the holy city of Nashik, which is rapidly gaining popularity as the wine capital of the country.
Post breakfast spend the morning walking along the Godavari ghats and witness several important Hindu rituals being performed. Then proceed to the lively Wednesday market, which sells everything from freshly caught catfish to cow dung cakes and many things in between.

Then drive to the Grover Zampa vineyards for a special tour of one of the finest wine producing facilities of India. Walk through vines laden with Chenin, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Explore the age old 'methodetraditionnelle' used to make one of the best known Indian brands of sparkling wines. Let the sommelier introduce your taste buds to their most exquisite creations of white, red, rose and sparkling wines and experiment pairing them with your meal at the vineyards.

After a lavish lunch, return to the Deccan Odyssey and set forth for Mumbai, the last leg of the journey.
The rest of the day is at leisure on board. Breakfast on board, lunch at the Grover Zampa vineyard and dinner on board. Overnight on board the Deccan Odyssey.

Day 08 : Saturday Disembark in Mumbai

This morning, after breakfast, you will disembark at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus railway station.
Bid farewell to the Deccan Odyssey as your royal passage through the splendid vistas of India comes to an end. Breakfast on board.

Reservation / Cancellation - Terms & Conditions

Booking Policy :

  • 20% of ticket value at the time of confirming the booking.
  • Remaining 80% of ticket value 60 days prior to departure.

For USD bookings : The payable amount in INR should be credited in our account as per the rate of exchange (ROE) of the previous day of the date (www.rbi.org.in) of transferring the amount by the agent.

Cancellation Policy :

  • No cancellation on cancelling 60 days prior to the departure date.
  • Retention of 20% of ticket value on cancelling 59-45 days prior to the departure date.
  • Retention of 50% of ticket value on cancelling 44-30 days prior to the departure date.
  • Rentention of 100% of ticket value on cancelling 29 days prior to the departure date.

Child Policy :

  • Deccan Odyssey does accommodate children but we ask parents to be mindful of the sophisticated adult atmosphere we endeavor to maintain.
  • One child up to 5 years of age shall be allowed free of cost in the Deluxe Cabin, subject to sharing of double bed with parents. This is subject to availability of double bed at the time of booking.
  • For families, with a child between 6-12 years of age, or, with two children with one child below 5 years and another between 6-12 years, we recommend the Presidential Suite which has a double bed in the bedroom and can be shared with a child below 5 years and a sofa cum bed in the living room which can accommodate the older child. In this case, the child/children will be accommodated free of cost.
  • In case of two children between 6-12 years of age travelling with their parents, you will have to take 2 cabins. The first child pays 25% of the adult fare and the second child will have to pay 50% of the adult fare. One of the parents will have to be present with the child / children in the cabin.

No show/ En route termination of tour/amendment

  • No Show - In case of No Show / Non-arrival of the guest, no refund or adjustment in future travel will be possible. The whole amount shall be treated as forfeited.
  • En route termination of tour - In case of termination of tour by the guest, for any reasons, no refund or adjustment for future travel will be possible. The amount for unused portion of the tour shall be treated as forfeited.
  • Amendment - Is only possible under the circumstances like Natural Disaster / Natural Calamity or Serious Health Problem's (this needs to be supported by doctor's certificate) and is subject to availability. No refunds are possible and every case will be decided on merits on a case to case basis. No amendment will be permissible in case of booking of groups or complete train.

Mumbai : Famous as the commercial capital of India

Mumbai is a very famous city of India. The most popular tourist destinations in Mumbai include the Gateway of India, Nehru Planetarium, Mahalaxmi Temple, Tadoba (a tiger reserve in andheri) and Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Jaigadh, Ganapatipule and Ratnagiri

Jaigadh is famous for the Fort here, which is situated on a cliff giving a spectacular view to its visitors. The boat ride from Rai jetty to Jaigad Fort gives you immense pleasure and fun. While in Ganapatipule you can explore the finest beach all along the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri is famous for Ratnadurg Fort, Lokmanya Tilak Smarak and Ratnagiri Bazaar

Sindhudurg, Tarkali and Sawantwadi

One time naval base, Sindhudurg Sea Fort is the main attraction here. You take a boat from Malvan Jetty to reach to this sea fort. Tarkali is famous for its virgin beaches. You can enjoy boat riding in Tarkali Creek on your way to Kalsa Jetty. Sawantwadi is popular as the entry point to Goa. This colorful and elite heritage destination is famous for Jagannathrao Bhosale Garden and 'Shilpa Gram', a craft village offering numerous beautiful crafts items.

Goa

Though Goa is world famous for its beautiful and exotic beaches. It also houses some of the best monuments of India. The famous tourist spots here include Basilica of Born Jesus Church, Se Cathedral Church and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi (a museum for Goan antiques). In Panjim you can visit Dona Paula, a small palm fringed beach with casuarinas groves and tranquility and Fontanhas, the Latin quarters.

Pune City

Pune is famous as the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Famous tourist places here include Kelkar Museum which houses a variety of artifacts of the 17th-19th centuries, the world famous Osho Asharam, the Tribal Museum, the Aga Khan Palace and the 'Sound and Light Show' at Shaniwarwada.

Ajanta Caves & Nashik

A World Heritage Site, Buddhist caves of Ajanta are famous in all over the world. It has some of the finest paintings and sculptures of the 2nd century A.D. Nashik is famous for Panchawati Ghat and Sula Winery Yard.
